Former Eureka (Allenton) resident Boston Red Sox pitcher Bob Klinger was on the mound when Enos Slaughter made his “Mad Dash” from first to score the winning run in game 7 that allowed the St. Louis Cardinals to win the 1946 World Series. He has a lifetime winning record of 66-61 and played 6 seasons for Pittsburgh and Boston. He died in an auto accident in 1977 and is buried in Eureka.
From 2003 through 2010 our D.A.R.E. Program has educated 2,203 fifth grade students about the dangers of drugs, alcohol and violence.
Eureka was a pioneer in billboard regulation. Its ordinance was challenged by the industry and upheld by the Missouri Supreme Court.
Since 2000 our CERT classes have graduated 320 volunteers trained to assist neighborhoods and workplaces during a disaster or emergency.
